Abstract: Using Raman spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy, we study boron nanoparticles synthesised by ablation of a boron target in isopropanol by radiation from a pulsed ytterbium fibre laser. The size of nanoparticles is 5–50 nm, and they contain boron and carbon. The nanoparticles have a carbon shell with a structure period of 0.34 nm. The use of the obtained nanoparticles as additives to hydrocarbon fuels and in boron neutron capture therapy is discussed.
